JULY 10, 2015: Many thanks to the great naturalist and writer Bernd Heinrich for sharing with us this photo he took of an unhatched chickadee egg he found a few days ago while cleaning out a nesting box at his cabin in western Maine. Bernd had been studying a pair of chickadees whose nest was raided as their eggs were hatching and who then built a second nest and produced more eggs soon thereafter. I love his use of a bottle cap to convey the smallness of the egg.
