I'm happy to report that Margaret Krug's "Create a Field Notebook" drawing workshop on Saturday was fun and rewarding for all involved. Here are a few photos. I think you can access more on a new section we just added (along with a Facebook link) on the right-hand side of this page.
Countdown to the Sweet 16
We are just a couple of weeks away from the start of our third annual Sweet 16 honey-tasting tournament. This morning the first competitor arrived: Massachusetts Breakwind Farm honey from the boutique apiary of noted writer E.M. Swift. The Naturalist's Notebook seeding committee is hard at work on the NCAA basketball tournament-style brackets. A source close to the committee tells me that the opening match may pit defending champion Maine wild raspberry against Southern power North Carolina sourwood. Stay tuned.
Answer to the Last Puzzler:
Match the state to its state bird:
Iowa: American goldfinch
Virginia: Northern cardinal
Vermont: Hermit thrush
New Mexico: Greater roadrunner
Today's Puzzler:
Arrange eight eights so that when they're added they equal 1,000. (For example, 8 + 888 + 88 + etc)
