The Origins…
The Naturalist’s Notebook was created by two very special people: Pamelia Markwood Neff and Craig Neff. Pamelia was a career artist, based in New York City and Maine. And Craig is a travel writer and former editor at Sports Illustrated. As lifelong learners who care deeply about the environment, the husband and wife team wanted to create a space where others could celebrate science, nature, art, books, and our home on planet Earth. In 2009 they purchased a funky old building that matched their aspirations, and set to work developing The Naturalist’s Notebook. The shop continued to grow and evolve under their care until Pammie’s unexpected passing in 2018. Below you’ll find a partial account of the shop’s creation in their own words.
