Wildlife Track and Sign Walk

  • The Naturalist's Notebook 16 Main Street Seal Harbor, ME 04605 U.S. (map)

Join us for a morning of examining the mysterious traces left behind by all manner of creatures on the coast of Maine. From moose to mound ants, the closer you look the more you find. We'll cover the basics of the track and sign identification process, as well as a bit of track patterns and interpretation.

We will meet at the Naturalist’s Notebook to reference track and sign texts and depart for our excursion from there, exploring the Seal Harbor Beach and Village Green.

Participants should dress for the weather and bring water. Notebook optional but encouraged (there are plenty to be found at the shop!).

Program leader Matt Haviland is an avid naturalist who found his passion for nature and tracking as a young boy searching for salamanders and trailing his cat in his backyard. A 2012 graduate of College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, he has worked on dozens of wildlife research projects throughout the state and beyond. Matt is a registered Maine Guide, wilderness first responder, and holds a Track and Sign level 3 certification from CyberTracker Conservation.

Program fee is $13/participant. This program is geared for adults, but families are also welcome!
